Feeding & Nutrition

Feeding preferences and abilities vary for neurodivergent children with Autism, ADHD, and other developmental differences. Past trauma experiences also impact eating and nutrition.  Sensory food issues can lead to poor growth and nutrition, and make family mealtimes challenging.  At Fed to Flourish, we believe in taking the long term approach. Understanding your child’s development is the first step towards building a foundation for healthy eating.  By establishing a foundation of trust, and giving attention to the medical, nutritional, feeding skill, and psychosocial aspects of eating, we empower the child for lasting success.  Our multidisciplinary team can support you as you move towards nourishing your family in a more positive, responsive feeding relationship so that your family can flourish.

Concerns we can address:

  • Speech Sound Disorders
  • Receptive/Expressive Language Delay
  • Fluency needs
  • Articulation and phonological disorders
  • In-person/tele-therapy services when appropriate

Feeding Milestones

Feeding and eating are essential skills that contribute to healthy growth and developement of each child.  It’s important to note that each child develops these skills at different times, and may meet milestones earlier or later than others. These milestones, adapted from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association Milestones checklist, are not meant to be used as a diagnostic tool. If your child is not meeting many of these milestones for their given age, a feeding assessment could be helpful.

Iron Deficiency In Children

Iron deficiency is a common nutritional concern that affects people of all ages, but it can be particularly prevalent among kids with feeding challenges. Iron plays a crucial role in the body. It aids in the production of hemoglobin, which is responsible for transporting oxygen to cells.  This is a common problem affecting 47% of the pediatric population worldwide.
