Feeding Therapy

Every child and family experiences mealtimes differently. For some, eating feels enjoyable and natural. For others, challenges such as picky eating, food refusal, or mealtime stress can make it difficult for both parent and child. It’s normal for families to feel overwhelmed when feeding doesn’t go as expected.

Feeding preferences and abilities also vary widely, especially for neurodivergent children, including those with Autism, ADHD, and other developmental differences. Past trauma or early adverse experiences may affect a child’s relationship with food, while sensory challenges can sometimes lead to poor growth and nutrition. These difficulties can make family mealtimes even more stressful.

At Fed to Flourish, we provide responsive feeding therapy that honors each child’s unique developmental needs and emotional experiences. Our approach is grounded in building trust, respecting a child’s cues, and supporting long-term feeding development rather than seeking quick fixes. Creating positive eating experiences begins at birth and helps children grow in confidence and trust at the table.

Connected Mealtimes happen when eating feels calm, safe, and joyful for both child and family. At the heart of Connected Mealtimes is the relationship between you and your child. We focus on helping children feel safe with food, tune in to their own bodies, and experience mealtimes as opportunities for growth and connection.

Our  team addresses the medical, nutritional, skill-based, and psychosocial aspects of feeding. Together, we support families in creating healthier, more connected mealtime experience, so your child and family can truly Flourish.

Feeding Milestones

Feeding and eating are essential skills that contribute to healthy growth and developement of each child.  It’s important to note that each child develops these skills at different times, and may meet milestones earlier or later than others. These milestones, adapted from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) Milestones checklist, are not meant to be used as a diagnostic tool. If your child is not meeting many of these milestones for their given age, a feeding assessment could be helpful.

Iron Deficiency In Children

Iron deficiency is a common nutritional concern that affects people of all ages, but it can be particularly prevalent among kids with feeding challenges. Iron plays a crucial role in the body. It aids in the production of hemoglobin, which is responsible for transporting oxygen to cells.  This is a common problem affecting 47% of the pediatric population worldwide.
